The activity will help students understand the concept of relative frequency. Using dice and coin simulators, they will see relative frequency graphs being generated and will experience how they converge towards an expected probability.

Once the animation is started, a dot plot shows absolute frequency and a pie chart indicates relative frequency of the outcomes. The activity is best suited to a whole-class discussion around projected images produced on TI-Nspire Teacher Software . Following this, students can produce their own version of the relative frequency graphs using their handhelds.

The Teacher Notes give instructions for running the simulators and include a suggested lesson outline.

The activity forms part of the OxBox, published by Oxford University Press  to support their course 'Oxford GCSE Maths'. http://www.oup.com/oxed/secondary/2010gcse/
